Show you 'care' about Iraq, Crocker urges Arabs
WASHINGTON(Yahoo)- The US ambassador to Baghdad, Ryan Crocker, on Friday urged Arab states to show they care about Iraq by sending ambassadors there and doing more to help revive a fellow Arab country.
"I am here to tell you and come Monday, I will be there to tell them, that in fact you can run an embassy under current conditions," Crocker said after recounting working under rocket attacks in the fortified international zone.He stressed the various ways Arab states should become involved.
"They need to be diplomatically involved. They need to be economically involved. They need to be working on the development issues," the ambassador said.An appalling statement coming from the american ambassador who knew they are loosing ground in Iraq.
"They need to demonstrate to the Iraqis -- the people, not just the government -- that the Arabs care about what happens there and want what happens there to be positive for Iraq and for the region," he said.
"I cannot recall a single ministerial level visit from any Arab state in the year that I have been there. There are no Arab ambassadors in Baghdad," he said.
"And Iraqis are becoming a little sensitive to this. And by no means just the Shia."
Mean while at home in U.S., the State Department is warning diplomats they may be forced to serve in Iraq next year and will soon identify prime candidates for upcoming vacancies in Baghdad and outlying provinces.
Picture shows tens and tens of thousands of people organized anti-war demonstrations. The mass actions took place in over 35 cities and towns throughout the United States.
People from all walks of life - including workers, youth, soldiers and veterans, seniors, etc. - all rallied around the demand: "U.S., Out of Iraq, Now!" Other slogans included: "Hands Off, Iran!," and "Stop U.S. Aid to Israel!" In fact, the people are demanding nothing less than an end to U.S. aggression everywhere.
